Employee of the Year: David Szkotnik

December 13, 2017

EOTY Regency2There are so many great individuals that deserve the nomination of employee of the year. But our nominee truly stands out. He has exhibited continued and unwavering professionalism, dedication and compassion in the face of incredible adversity. He has diligently worked to develop a great relationship with his residents. With a calling towards nursing, he has successfully responded to our residents’ needs.  Without hesitation, he has fully committed himself to being a care-giver and leader.

Our nominee has his own successful story to tell. After immigrating to the United States, he started his professional career in our facility in 2009 as a CNA. He was an outstanding CNA and worked full time for three years while attending night school and studying to be a LPN.  As a CNA, our nominee really had the opportunity to work closely with the residents and established bonds that continue to this day.  He became an LPN in 2012 and continued his career at our facility. He worked all of our units and really grew to be a confident nurse. Our nominee then decided to return to school to become a registered nurse. Once again, he worked full time and went to school and became an RN in 2016. He is now returning to school in January to begin his BSN.  Apart from being an absolute joy to work with, his work is detail orientated and meticulous and he enjoys taking challenges.

The votes for our nominee were overwhelming and spanned many departments.  Our CNA supervisor wrote a long report detailing our nominee’s kindness and ability to stay calm in sometimes stressful situations, but what impressed her most is that he on a regular basis helps the CNAs on the unit with toileting, feeding and showering. “He means the world to the CNAs.” Our activity director recalled that our nominee was the first nurse to introduce himself to him on his first day of work 5 years ago. He stated that he showed him the 4th and 5th floor units when he arrived and always helps either transport or encourage the residents to attend activities. Director of Nursing wrote that she is impressed with how he continues to develop his skills and grow, “Not only is he a student but he’s a teacher” he is a natural leader and the staff work hard for him because they do not want to disappoint him.

Our nominee is the epitome of what a model employee should be. He worked his way up to be an example to his fellow peers. He is not only a great leader to the nursing department but a wonderful care-giver to our residents and deserves to be Employee of the Year!
